It's peculiar how nuance takes form with those imaginary state lines. Texas has the most Ford Mustangs per-capita and may be the only area where you'll find competitive disc golfers in Wrangler's. State lines within our country have certainly allowed for uniqueness of expression making these imaginary borders so defined that, in a way, they're visible.
Another full circle development took place in Amarillo. While I was painting a house in Boise shortly before this trip, fellow co-worker/disc golfer/good friend-Bridger Baxter mentioned a friend he had in Texas. Turns out Amarillo is 4 or 5 hours east of Albuquerque on the I-40. The arrangements were made and I met John for weekly doubles at Discreek DGC. My partner and I tied for 1st and while the evening light was struggling to hold on to another day, I made the necessary adjustments in the "casa de Chevrolet". John refused to let me sleep in my truck (rhetorical theme) so when we arrived at his house, I understood why...This guy has the ultimate hacienda for 6'6" hippies crossing through Texas! I got my own personal pool house equipped with a full bath, queen size bed and laundry room.

When morning came, John called in sick and my journey took a 100 mile detour so we could check out a worthwhile course in Lubbock, TX(home of the Texas Tech. Raiders). This is the second longest course I've played-being trumped by 700 ft. thanx to a little place called Rock Hill, SC(Winthrop Gold/10,000 ft.) When we rolled into the parking lot I noticed a big "O" (University of Oregon) sticker posted on the side of an old van that had baskets bungied to the roof. It was this moment when I knew we were going to have a fun round and be running across some good ole' boys. Sure enough, Tyler and Justice were "wading" for discs on this signature hole where I threw my champion Orc short of the green.

Refusing to re-tee, I relunctantly walked the DNF route with a lighter bag. As we approached the basket, Justice was holding my disc above water in the middle of the lake. I was ecstatic. These 2 guys from Oregon and me were in the middle of nowhere Texas on our way to the same place-International Disc Golf Center(IDGC) for the Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic. Macquenzie Park was a detour worth taking and was full of fun and coincidance. Who else is heading east???

Every course has a distinct personality and swagger that gives the land a name-a meaning. The Top of Texas is no exception. Their Motto is as follows: disc golf was easy until God added wind! My staycation was topped with country gravy (John hooked me up with an excellent country fried steak at a local restaurant he manages). I'll need a few more of them if I want to throw as far as he does!

Thanks for everything bud! I had a blast and it looks like Texas is treating you pretty well. My arm is basically numb from all the gunning.......I hope it heals so I can gear up for my next destination!
